Springbank 100 proof (2025 batch)

Intro

My first review is one from Springbank, that mythical distillery everyone raves about… Luckily this bottle is relatively easily to pick up compared to other of their bottlings. It’s a bottle I didn’t mean to pick up at first, as I was quite hesitant to pick up such a young Whisky. But after having a chat with someone from my local liquor store, I decided to take it home. It was the evening before going on a weekend trip with some colleagues who have become friends over the years. I can’t think off a better setting to crack and share a bottle, right? Let’s say that over the weekend alongside a barbecue and some good company it didn’t disappoint!

Tasting Notes

On the nose I first got a lot of honey, it reminds me of honey waffles. A slight hint of vanilla also there. Then it developed in a more industrial note, something oily in there which reminded me of fine oil, the kind used for sowing machines. A hint of peat emerges with a wiff of smoke. In a way it reminded me of a the smoke of a vanilla cigar that’s lingering in an ashtray from quite a distance on a summer night.

On the palate I noticed the campbeltown funk, which was present in with those industrial notes found on the nose again. Lot’s of white fruit afterwards, like very ripe red apples, peach. It reminded me a bit of the cans of fruitcocktail you can pick up in the supermarket, which have a lot of apple and grapes in them on syrup. The finish is thick with more of the vanilla notes and mouth coating.

Score: 87/100
